Take the Tohoku Shinkansen (Yamabiko) from Tokyo or Ueno Station — about 80 minutes. No transfers. Buy tickets at the station on the day, or reserve seats free with your JR Pass.
Koriyama is fully covered by the JR EAST PASS (Tohoku area) — your round trip costs nothing extra. It's the smartest stop on your way to or from Sendai and Aizu.
